Brian Durocher, Head Coach
Brian Durocher concluded his 16th season as head coach of the Boston University women’s ice hockey program in 2019-20.
The Terriers were one of the top teams in the country in 2018-19 thanks to Durocher’s guidance, which saw BU finish the year 13-2-3 over its last 18 games. Durocher won 20 games for the seventh time in program history, as BU completed the season with a 21-8-8 record. He coached Second Team All-American and top-10 Patty Kazmaier finalist Jesse Compher to one of the finest seasons in Terrier history, as she set a new single-season program record with 44 assists and posted 61 total points, second-most in BU history. Kerstin Matthews, Associate Head Coach
Kerstin Matthews was named associate head coach of the Boston University women’s ice hockey program on June 16, 2021.
Matthews, who transitioned BU from a club team to the Division I level and served as Durocher’s top assistant for three seasons, returned to BU after spending the past 13 years as the head coach at Saint Anselm. She compiled a 237-74-22 record at Saint Anselm with an impressive winning percentage of .745.
Since joining Saint Anselm in 2008, Matthews led the Hawks to seven 20-win campaigns, including five in the last seven seasons. Her teams won five postseason tournament titles and finished as the runner-up on five other occasions. Matthews won Coach of the Year honors three times across play in the ECAC East, the New England Hockey Conference and the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance. Learn More Here!
Abby Ostrom, Director of Hockey Operations
Abby Ostrom was named the women’s ice hockey program’s director of hockey operations in September 2019.
Ostrom comes to Boston after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Trinity College. A 2014 graduate of Trinity with a bachelor’s degree in American studies and a master’s in public policy & law, Ostrom was a two-sport star on the ice and on the softball diamond. Ostrom was the director of men’s ice hockey operations and an assistant softball coach at Skidmore College during the 2014-15 campaign. She was a coaching intern with the USA Hockey National Development Camp in Minnesota for the U-15 and U-18 squads in the summers of 2015 and 2016, before working as a skills coach for the U-18 group at the camp in 2017. Ostrom graduated from the WeCoach NCAA Women’s Coaches academy in the summer of 2019 as a part of the 47th class.
